Intensive day treatment serves youth with behavioral, emotional or learning problems who need more intense services than public schools provide, yet do not need out-of-home 24-hour care. Students receive special education, counseling, behavior management and family services, but return to their own homes each day.
Program Overview
Intensive day treatment provides mental health and special educational programs. Each child has a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan developed by a multidisciplinary team comprised of the student and their family, a mental health professional, mental health practitioner, referring workers, and educational staff. The team also includes mental health practitioners and a mental health professional.

Referral Process
Intensive day treatment is for students between kindergarten and 12th grade who have a clinical diagnosis from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Northwood welcomes inquiries from mental health professionals, local school districts, county social workers, hospitals, and parents.
Staff
Each student in the day treatment program has a mental health professional and practitioner assigned to them, employed by Northwood Children’s Services. Teachers and educational assistants are employed by ISD 709.
