At Northwood Children’s Services, you can expect an environment that fosters a positive culture, develops assets, and has high expectations not only for our students but also for our staff. When visiting Northwood Children’s Services you will be comforted by the beauty and quality of our facilities and grounds. Our students all receive quality educational experiences, group and individual therapy, and daily, at the point of performance, counseling and skill building.
Our collaborative approach at Northwood Children’s Services targets to reduce symptoms across educational, behavioral, and emotional areas. We focus on the strengths our students already have and build upon those while offering new experiences to learn from.
The experiential learning can be found in all our activities and programming, but most notably our recreational department. From our ropes courses, our cabin on the beautiful Island Lake, the many acres alongside Skyline Parkway that our West Campus sits upon, and in our community, the students we serve have many opportunities to develop new interests and skills. Our ultimate goal is to give the children the opportunities, guidance, and level of care needed to develop brighter futures.
Therapy
Therapy includes individual, family and group therapy delivered by licensed mental health professionals to include clinical social workers, clinical counselors, and marriage and family therapists. All therapists are certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and use a strengths based model. Therapy is individualized to the students’ needs and includes a variety of methods including cognitive behavioral therapy, art and play techniques, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, psychoeducation and many others.
All therapeutic services are based on the student’s diagnostic assessment. Goals and objectives are written in partnership with the parent(s) and caregivers outlining specific interventions that will be given to the student to ensure successful progress. Families are a critical part of the treatment process and are involved at every step. Therapy sessions are flexible and can be scheduled with the individual therapist to meet the needs of the student and family.
Northwood therapists participate in regular case consultations and multidisciplinary reviews with access to clinical psychologists, psychiatry and nursing whenever needed. All therapists stay current on training and education while also receiving clinical oversight and supervision at Northwood Children’s Services.
